WONI EDUCATIONAL TRUST PROJECTS

NZOIANI SCHOOL
Some of the first projects to be implemented in this school were to bring sports equipment and uniforms to the students, soccer balls, soccer uniforms, badminton, basket balls.  All of Kenya loves their football (soccer).

The second most exciting was the planting of trees, donations were gathered in the USA to purchase seedling trees in Kenya for the fourth and fifth grades students as a special project.  The project was to teach them that the more trees, more rain.  In areas of Kenya that have many trees the rain fall is much heavier than in the areas where there are no trees.  Each student was in charge of one tree, they had to care for it, carry water from over a mile away just to water it.  This also was to teach them if you cut one tree down, you should plant three to replace it.  We taught them to trim the trees for wood, and not to cut down the whole tree.  As it takes so long for another one to grow.  This program was instituted in two rural schools.

School Book Program
Due to the poor economy in Kenya the  rural schools do not have enough work books for each of the children to use, so again monies have been collected to purchase the types of math and composition books they use in their schools.  This school book program has extended to the far north in Kenya in the Samburu village in Samburu National Park, and to the south in the Maasai village school in Amboseli National Park, and in the central section of Kenya at a Pre School in a small village.

Ngu Nyumu Pre School
The women of this village gathered to discuss their children and preparing them for primary school, their ideas became a reality when enough money had been raised from around the world to build a one room school for their children.  All with the driving force of Woni Educational Trust helping with spreading the word of their endeavors.

This pre school has graduated their first class to go on to primary school.  Soon the second class will be following the others.

Last year there was a tragic accident of a young child returning from her long walk from primary school, it had rained hard, and a creek was swollen with water.  Knowing she had to get home as her Mother would worry, the little girl tried to cross the swollen creek, she was found later drowned.

This tragic accident has moved the ladies of the village to find a piece of land to build their own primary school so this doesn’t happen again to another family.  Funds are being raised in the Netherlands and the USA, if someone who reads this and would like to donate to the new primary school, please contact Woni Educational Trust.
