Woni Education Trust was founded in 2004 and was registered as a Non-Profit Organization. It’s a question we all ask ourselves when we see people suffering. As human beings, we want to help—but how?

For us, our main objective is on Childhood Development in Pre-Schools, Primary schools and High Schools in the Eastern Province of Kenya - Machakos District. At present we have 6 schools affiliated to us and we assist these schools in various ways by finding sponsors/donors for the following:

• Upgrading of Schools - in its entirety, including playground equipment to comply with minimum standard as required by the Departments of Social Services and Health
• Education – Woni Education Trust has established to provide education to pupils from these poor families.
• Construction of a Pre-school – Woni Education works with Single Mothers and Widows of Ngu-Nyumu village who wanted to be active in their community. They came up with the idea to have a pre-school for the children. It will be organized with play time, learning to be in the atmosphere of school classrooms.
• Sports equipments – Woni Educational Trust donates sports equipments to local schools in the village.

Woni Education Trust has made a step further and has joined hands with a women’s self help group which undertakes projects to improve their only main income source – farming. These projects are basket weaving, jam making and more recently construction of a pre-school as schools in this area are very far for 5 year olds + to travel to daily – a distance of approximately 2 miles.

We have also started a Youth Project and we have assisted them to establish a wood carving project where youth members produce the famous wood carvings for tourist sales. For every tree felled 2 others are planted from a subsidiary project run by this group to ensure that the environment is maintained.

Our dedicated team oversees these projects and in every day dealings with the teachers, principals, people and children, skills transfer and basic life-skills are shared.
